Add This Exciting New Links Course to Your Scotland Golf Bucket List

One thing many of our clients take away from a visit to St. Andrews is just how much incredible golf there is in Scotland. They may have only heard of The Old Course as The Home of Golf, but the entire region is a wealth of wonderful courses that should be added to any golf lover’s bucket list. And as of spring 2020, there will be another course to add to that list.

Opening next May, Dumbarnie Links will be the newest golf course in Scotland, and it’s already making a name for itself for being one of the best links courses in the region. Only nine miles from St. Andrews, queues are already forming to get onto the course next summer, especially as an added bonus after a once-in-a-lifetime round at The Old Course.

The new links course overlooks the Firth of Forth, with 14 holes boasting water views. The panoramic views from the 345-acre setting are also spectacular, affording players not just a direct view of the water, but sight lines to Muirfield, North Berwick, and the city of Edinburgh. Overall, the courses boasts dual elevations connected by a flowing escarpment, allowing for a number of elevated tees that play directly toward the water. Despite the occasionally challenging conditions of the Scottish weather, Dumbarnie will be known for being “inspiring rather than intimidating”, although it is ready for championship play should the need arise.

Dumbarnie was designed by renowned golf architect Clive Clark, whom you may recognize from such American classics as Indian Wells in California and Belgrade Lakes in Maine. He’s also tried his hand at three courses in England and one in Spain. Dumbarnie Links will be his first course in Scotland, and seems destined to be his best yet.

The new club offers ample practice areas, as well as a brand-new clubhouse with entirely modern amenities, from locker rooms to a fully-stocked pro shop and a well appointed bar and restaurant. And yes, the facility does offer golf carts (or buggies), although these are reserved for golfers with medical disabilities. (We can help you rent one should you need it — just ask!)

For any golfer who isn’t convinced that new courses can be as important to play as the old standards, Dumbarnie Links is surrounded by history. As part of the 5,000-acre Balcarres Estate, which has been part of Lord Baniel’s family for over four centuries, the links are situated in a particularly unique landscape. Surrounded by preserved gardens and the Balcarres House, a mansion first built in 1595, Dumbarnie Links offers as much classical Scottish history as it does premier links golf on a new and exciting course.

We’re pleased to announce that we are partnered with Dumbarnie Links to offer our customers another fantastic Scottish links course to add to their list of must-play courses. If you’re planning a trip to St. Andrews next summer or early fall, we’d love to get you on this new links course as well.
