Monday Links: June 29th

Welcome back to Monday Links, our weekly roundup of all the news that’s caught our eye lately, as well as stories we’re following for the week ahead:

McIlroy, Spieth heavy favorites at St. Andrews(paddypower.com) Just two weeks out from the 2015 British Open, oddsmakers have golf’s two young guns, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth, as the clear picks to win at the Old Course. Rory comes in at 4-1, while Spieth isn’t far behind at 13-2. Dustin Johnson has the next lowest odds at 14-1, while poor Tiger Woods comes in at a paltry 50-1. Keep an eye out for our own picks come Open week.

Crail Golfing Society, a true hidden gem(linksmagazine.com) It’s always nice to see one of our favorite underrated courses get some much-deserved press. Here, Links Magazine sings the praises of Crail, whose Balcomie Links is probably the greatest links course in the world under 6,000 yards.

A fond farewell for Tom Watson(youtube.com) Five-time champion Tom Watson will be playing his last British Open this month at St. Andrews, and the R&A posted this fine tribute video to a man who has proven himself to be one of golf’s most enduring greats. Don’t be surprised if ol’ Tom is around come Sunday to make one final walk down the 18th.
