The 2019 World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play tournament is kicking off March 27-31 in Austin, Texas at Austin Country Club. As an Austin-based company, we love having the tournament so close, and enjoy seeing some of our favorite players tee off on a familiar course.. But beyond the convenient location, we’re looking forward to a few other thrills this year as well.
Tiger’s First Time in Austin
If you’ve been hiding under a rock, Tiger Woods is playing Austin for the first time ever. It’s his 14th career start, but his first one in our hometown. As the only three-time winner of this particular tourney (2003, 2004, 2008), Tiger is also the only player to defend the title successfully. We hate to play favorites, but we’re sincerely hoping he’ll make this his 19th career World Golf Championship title.
McIlroy Riding High After Players Championship
Another player we’re excited to watch this week is Rory McIlroy, who is probably still high after his win in mid-March at the 2019 Players Championship. His one-stroke defeat of Jim Furyk at Sawgrass was a pretty exhilarating finish, and we’re sure it’s going to fuel his feelings for Austin. Will he have enough energy and confidence coming off that win to defeat 2018 champion Bubba Watson or our personal champion Tiger Woods? If he continues to play as well as he’s played in the first three months of 2019, it’s a good possibility.
The Criquet Opening Party
For the fourth year in a row, Criquet Shirts is hosting their 19th Hole Party on Friday evening, and we’re excited to participate. A silent auction will benefit Save Muny, the campaign to preserve and restore Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin. We’ll be auctioning a tee time to play the Old Course, so you won’t want to miss it. Criquet Shirts is our clothing partner, and are also local to Austin. They’ve been with us from the start, and we’re excited to celebrate with them this year.
